Online somatic coaching for anxiety, stress and the effects of trauma

“I know exactly why I’m like this, so why am I still stuck?”

Understanding your patterns is one thing. Changing them can still feel difficult. I’m Ruth Edwards, a trauma-informed somatic coach and Brainspotting practitioner. I support people with anxiety, people-pleasing and low self-worth, and I also offer support for recovery from narcissistic abuse. We work with both mind and body, at a pace that feels comfortable for you, helping you feel steadier, build self-trust and move forward. How somatic coaching helps

Most people who get in touch have already tried hard to feel better. Somatic coaching adds the body to the conversation.

What is somatic coaching?

Somatic coaching is coaching that works with the body as well as the mind. Alongside talking, we pay attention to physical sensations, breath and how your nervous system responds to stress, so you can notice patterns as they happen and find practical ways to feel steadier.

What does trauma-informed mean?

Trauma-informed means the work is built around safety, trust, choice and collaboration. You stay in control of the pace and of what you share, nothing is forced, and you always know what’s happening and why.

Coaching, alongside other care

Somatic coaching isn’t a treatment for any medical or mental health condition, and it isn’t a substitute for therapy or medical care. It can sit alongside them. If you need a different kind of support, I’ll suggest it.

What is Brainspotting? Ruth Edwards, Brainspotting practitioner, explains how online Brainspotting works · 40 sec

One-to-one, by video call, from home

Online Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a brain–body approach developed by Dr David Grand in 2003. It uses where you look to help you notice and work with difficult emotions, memories and body sensations. My sessions are one-to-one.

Brainspotting can be offered by video call. My sessions are one-to-one, and you’ll need a quiet, private space and a reliable internet connection. Here’s what a session is like:

  1. 1We discuss what you would like to focus on.
  2. 2I invite you to notice any emotions or body sensations.
  3. 3We explore a visual focus while paying attention to your experience.
  4. 4We leave time to check in and bring the session to a close.

You don’t always need to describe past events in detail.

What I help with

Nervous system regulation

Feeling wired, on edge or shut down, and not always sure why? Together we map how your nervous system responds to stress, so you can recognise your patterns as they happen and find practical ways to steady yourself day to day.

“I am and always will be forever grateful for no longer being stuck in fight or flight mode.”

People-pleasing

Saying yes when you mean no, then feeling drained or resentful? People-pleasing can develop for different reasons. Together, we explore what happens in your thoughts and body when you put your own needs forward, and practise ways to set boundaries with greater confidence.

“I’m sleeping better, communicating my needs more clearly and feeling in a much better place overall.”

Stop people-pleasing

Narcissistic abuse recovery

Doubting your memory and judgement, and still bracing long after the relationship has ended. Recovery isn’t linear. I offer honest, personal support at your pace, to help you make sense of what happened and rebuild trust in your own body and judgement.

“Ruth’s knowledge, compassion and intuition has been hugely helpful when navigating complex relationship and trauma related issues.”

Meet Ruth

Why work one-to-one with Ruth

For a long time I was a people-pleaser who struggled with boundaries and low self-esteem. Counselling and medication helped for a while, but body-based work is what finally changed things for me. Now I share that work, alongside practical, future-focused coaching.

One-to-one means the work is shaped around you: your pace, your history and what you want to change, rather than a set course everyone follows. My approach draws on Brainspotting, somatic coaching, Internal Family Systems-informed parts work, positive psychology and hypnotherapy.

  • ICF- and CPD-accredited certification in somatic trauma-informed coaching
  • Brainspotting practitioner
  • BSc (Hons) Psychology
  • CPD accredited Narcissistic Abuse Specialist
  • Certified in hypnotherapy (American Board of Hypnotherapy)

All questions and answers

What is somatic coaching?

Somatic coaching is coaching that works with the body as well as the mind. Alongside talking, we pay attention to physical sensations, breath and how your nervous system responds to stress. The aim is to help you notice patterns as they happen and find practical ways to feel steadier in everyday life.

Is somatic coaching the same as somatic therapy?

No. Somatic coaching and somatic therapy share an interest in the body, but coaching is not a treatment for mental health conditions. I hold an ICF- and CPD-accredited certification in somatic trauma-informed coaching. Coaching can sit alongside therapy or medical care, and if you need a different kind of support, I’ll suggest it.

Can Brainspotting be done online?

Yes. Brainspotting can be offered by video call, so you can have sessions from home wherever you are in the world. My sessions are one-to-one, and you’ll need a quiet, private space and a reliable internet connection. I also offer it in person during Healing Days in Shropshire.

Do you work across time zones?

Yes. I’m based in the UK and work online with clients worldwide. Some evening and weekend appointments are available, which helps if you’re in a different time zone, such as the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. We’ll find a time that works for you on your free discovery call.

What qualifications does Ruth have?

I’m a somatic trauma-informed coach and Brainspotting practitioner. I hold an ICF- and CPD-accredited certification in somatic trauma-informed coaching. I also hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and am a CPD accredited Narcissistic Abuse Specialist. My approach draws on Brainspotting, somatic coaching, Internal Family Systems-informed parts work, positive psychology and hypnotherapy.

How much does it cost?
